Status Update

September 4, 2009

Just when you run out of ideas for a post, along comes a facebook link that you MUST click and MUST do your bit to spread another bit of totally random information..

Assuming you have clicked on the link and have read it, what do you think of it? Yes please go back and click on the link.

Whenever I have written about facebook it was never really in a laudatory overtone .(Two different links this time,in case you didn’t click the second word.Whew that’s quite a lot of plugging ).

I think I jumped the gun on that one.Because the real torture was yet to come -when our friends started taking random quizzes by the  minute, or opening fortune cookies,or generating random stats or playing some farm game( what is it btw) or generally get on everyone’s nerves…Somebody please explain this farm game to me.and Mafia Wars.No wait.Something tells me I am better off without them.

Some one on my friends’  list published the results of another statistical calculation (on his friends) and just to make sure we missed the point he wrote “Random Shit” .As opposed to the gazillion other things he keeps updating, which of course is very illuminating.Like, which Friends character are you.

Another keeps updating his status every time he moves places.I donot mean countries or cities. Anytime he moves more than a meter, he feels it warrants a status update. So it goes like this – “X is in HRC”,”X is in Olive”,”X is in Four Season”.Next what? “X is in the kitchen”,”X is in the loo”?.Surprisingly X never seem to be in a normal average place , like Shanti Sagar.

Yet another updates her status as “Was wonderin hw mch longer I ws goin 2 hav 2 w8 2 b put out ov my misery!”.sic(k) Apparently she has stopped communicating in English and decided to go the Tolkien way with create her own language.Lest people start understanding her status messages.

And there is one who unabashedly keeps promoting her venture .

I am thinking of deleting her from my friend’s list.

I was wondering if I am the only person who is getting annoyed these days with the facebook updates and stupid status messages. But no am not the only one. People have simply made their entire life public updating almost every single thing and those photos of every incident. And then when it gives you warning that for using so and so application you are giving your details or something like that it scares me. Also when you take those quizes before giving you result facebook asks you to select friends and in very small letters (difficult to spot unless you know it) there is a option that skip inviting friends so most people end up inviting friends to do crap like staying in some virtual farm uffff.

Dont say anything about facebook. Do you even know how it is saving my life? I sit here in far away country with my unemployed ass on couch and read an FB status that says- X needs a drink today. And I think boy! am I glad my life is better! At least have my 4th drink of the day in my hand.

Facebook…..is bad but a part of life for some.
But seriously it gave me inferiority complex when I could not spread some gyaan or something funny about my current state through my update message.I started feeling like so very outdated and unimaginative. To my horror twitter is getting popular as well and its nothing more than making your life public in order to entertain people.
AND for sure I would need some extra classes on MAFIAWARS AND FARMVILLE….
My brother is going crazy for the former.
Sorry but dont you think writing a blog about your life as you are doing .. Aren’t You are doing somewhat similar?

yes on one level it is the same – megalomania and narcissism at its best.
But my blog is not a daily journal of where I went/ate etc.I am not forcing it down anyone’s throat.I am using it to advertise how cool my life is.
and most importantly, unlike facebook, where every update goes to 200+ friends, its only a handful who gets tortured by my posts 😛

Come on blog is something, as you said if you wish you will read it, not which comes annoying on your page. Giving comments on what people did every day or something like that. Also FB has serous flaws when it comes to protecting privacy I spent some hours trying to figure out how to block stupid applications. May is its time to quit it like orkut !

I meant I am NOT using it to advertise how cool my life is,EVERY HALF AN HOUR.I am not against status updates per se.It the frequency that scares me.

i tell you what-stop checking facebook everyday. sometimes i think office guys did a right thing by blocking facebook-once you cant access it you realise you can very much do without it. Its addictive and its full of shit. I found myself opening the fortune cookie five times over the weekend-just to get something i wanted to read. And then i thought-wtf am i doing. And yup that farmvilla i couldn’t figure out anything about that game-apart from dressing up the female.

My blog is a much better addiction than Facebook, I agree.
But if not for FB, people will find another thing to get addicted to.Counter Strike?

    what an idiot i am??
Questioning the blog amidst the very own blog lovers..??
    Sorry Sorry Sorry!!!
But yes I do agree with you that facebook is much more irritating at times… But than Its up to us to go there.
It takes a single second to delete your profile??
But for sure this mess is what we like to be in??
Its like a dark yummy chocolate with hundreds of calorie being served in front of person who’s on diet(I hope you understand )

But surely this mafia war and farmville are trouble Half of my page is generally filled with these.

Your logic is warped.I am not anti-facebook.It got me in touch with old friends, and most importantly helps me in promoting my travel company. So,I will go there and I cannot control what others do on their profile. Its like a pimple sitting on the nose of the person next to you.Irritates the hell out of me, but nothing I can do.
Why should I delete my blog? if someone doesnt like it,he can totally ignore it,at no extra effort. But status updates and farmvilla requests etc are that much harder to ignore ,because I have to take the extra effort to click ignore on the requests.
Its like spamming, only I cannot block you.
